What’s Lush Comics?
Glad you asked! Lush Comics is a comic book publishing platform for artists and publishers who want to share and sell their digital artwork. Comics, graphic novels, children’s books, and all sequential art are welcome.
How does it work?
Artists and publishers can register at the website, and then upload their artwork along with some other information like a titles and descriptions. It is then incorporated into the free Lush Comics comic reader app where readers can browse and purchase it.
Do I set the price?
Yes. You set the price per issue. You can choose any price in 1$ increments, starting from .99$. Readers outside the U.S. will see prices in their local currency. There is currently no option to give away comics for free, we hope that the free previews in the app should whet your readers' apetites enough to want to purchase them.
What format do you accept?
Comics need to be png or jpg formatted files, 1024 x 768 for the iPad and 960×640 for the iPhone.
Are there previews? Can readers check out what they’ll be buying before purchasing?
Yes. Each issue has three preview images so readers can browse and then buy.
How do I get paid?
There are two options to receiving payments: Amazon Payments or PayPal. Amazon Payments deposits money into your Amazon.com account which can be transferred to a U.S.-based bank account. For that reason, non-U.S. based artists should choose PayPal.
How much will I get paid? How often?
Lush Comics pays artists 70% of net proceeds from sales after Apple (and Google when the Android version is out) take their cut.
Are there stats for me to track how many are being sold?
Not yet, but that’s a’coming.
What about copyright? Who owns my artwork?
You do. Always. By submitting your artwork to Lush Comics for sale, you give up no rights to your artwork. One of the main reasons this site exists is to allow artists to use the technological tools that are out there to make it easy for them to sell their own art themselves, and not yield up any of their rights to publishers.
What if I change my mind and want to remove my comics from sale?
No problem, just email publishing@lushcomics.com with that request. In the future, there will be a dashboard in which you will be able to log in and control what is for sale and other details concerning your artwork, including closing your account.
Just iPhone, iPods and iPads ?
For now. An Android version is in the works.
